Located in a bending valley of the Hocking River, in Athens, Ohio, the south end of the Ohio University campus is prone to flooding during winter thaws. The site of the South Green Housing facility was surcharged with 16 feet of soil to replace existing residence halls that fall within the flood plane. A Living Learning Center serves as an anchor to the housing and connects two of the residence halls and the five-building facility is sited to allow for an open, public green and the interlocking residence halls also create a semi-private green.
