To serve the needs of international graduate students, Global Friendship Ministries had been housing the students throughout the Hampton Roads area. The Global Friendship House allows the students to be centralized on the edge of the Old Dominion University campus. As a result of the narrow strip of real estate that was available, the structure was imaged as a "bar" building with a mix of metal panel and brick base and an ipe rainscreen system. As a nod to the flags of the many countries representing the house, splashes of color appear through the facade.
