First Church Baptist Church needed a new facility to allow for their growing congregation and wanted to consolidate their activities that were spread around the Hampton Roads area. Located one block off of Jefferson Avenue in the Port Warwick area of Newport News, the "steeple" served as a iconic beacon for the new church face. Trellis structures and garden walls were used to maintain the approachable scale of the building while the program volume required a second floor. Though the project was taken all the way through a completed construction document set, the church needed to raise money for construction and, unfortunately, the project remains unbuilt.
