Roller Box

Built to protect the precious rollers of a 1950's Chandler & Price platen press for our friends at The Prince Ink Company (Phoebus, VA), the roller box references some of my earliest memories of my grandfather's tool boxes. The sidewalls of the tool box are finger jointed into the end panels and the handle is held in place with a mahogany wedge joint. Though not traditional to the tool box, a sliding top was added to enclose the ink rollers.

Tilt Shelf

Following travel to Japan, I returned to the states with a deep appreciation of Japanese construction and preservation techniques. I began experimenting with shou sugi ban through different species of wood all the while sharing desk space with a stark white painted masonry bearing wall. In an attempt to improve my environment with color I designed and built this tilt shelf. The rotating planes are dadoed to allow the planes to be interconnected. Traditional to Japanese practices, the end grain of the shelf are painted. The shou sugi ban charring is limited to the outside faces and the inside faces are painted yellow.
