WILLIAMSBURG CABINS

Cabin Rentals at Williamsburg Campgrounds

The Williamsburg Campground project was a mix of sixteen 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom cabin rentals, primitive camping sites and recreation vehicle parking.  The project site extends as a peninsula into Cheatham Lake.  Each cabin is oriented to allow for a view of the lake from the rear porch.  To aid in the pursuit of LEED Silver, the module of the cabins were set to eliminate waste and much of the wood framing was fabricated offsite.

Juror's comments: "Despite the modest program and building type, the simple yet innovative detailing elevated the project. We love how the buildings are nestled into the wooded setting. The vernacular form and scale are very appropriate for the use and context. Although utilitarian, the buildings are beautifully crafted. The "branch" truss detail is iconic throughout, yet simple and cost-effective. This is a great example of how excellent design can transform the ordinary to extraordinary."

The Comfort Station (left) was developed as an amenity for the primitive camping and recreational vehicle camping that is also available on the campgrounds and hosts a community room with a kitchenette, a laundry room, restrooms, and showers.
